Killzone Dev Says PS4 "A Lot More Demanding"
Eric Botljes, lead designer for Killzone: Shadow Fall, says that the PS4 is easier to develop for but wish require quadruple the production effort.
Much ado has been made about how the PlayStation 4, unlike the Cadre-based PS3, will be more easier for developers to attain games for. "The barrier to introduction that existed on the PS3 technologically is gone," said architect Mark Cerny. That existence the case, the coming of the PS4 and next-generation consoles doesn't necessarily mean things are going to get breezier for game developers. As a matter of fact, things may just gravel hard in dissimilar ways,
"The architecture is really cool because it's easier to originate for, you start out more memory, you get more hard drive space, you get more processing power so the architecture is easier," said Eric Boltjes, wind designer for Killzone: Shadow Fall. That being the, case the increased power of the PS4 as wel means that the hardware is "a lot more needy." According to Boltjes, "the production effort needed just to make a next-gen title straight off is non doubled; IT's quadrupled." In turn, developing a spunky like Killzone: Shadow Fall "takes a great deal more hoi polloi" and "from a professional standpoint it makes things much harder."
Considering how expensive IT already was to make triple-A titles care Shadow Fall, we can just imagine that the increased method requirements of the PS4 (and Xbox One) will dress slight to help with that. That being the case, with the PS4 looking to trust more heavily happening smaller indie productions this coevals, the costs of triple-A games might take up inferior of a reach than in the previous years where much a few developers died trying to produce games they couldn't afford.
